What's New at Zikomo Safari?

Strike up the band and light the fireworks, we....WON!!! We will open for business on April 1, 2010. If we had known it would take three years and this much money to finally open I am not sure if we would have stuck it out but that is all behind us and we have all the proper paperwork, licenses, and permission to run our camp. Demian is over there finishing building it and we will have brochures and all the necessary advertisement materials ready for us to go and see travel agents and take reservations for the 2010 season. I sure hope we will see you as this is it! It is going to be a WONDERFUL camp!!! The Wallaces

Dear Friends and Future Clients, As you know we were scheduled to open April 2009 but thanks to our on-going problems getting the go ahead from ZAWA we will have to say that as soon as we know you will know. Right now I would say that the soonest we could pull this off if ZAWA gave us the go ahead tomorrow would be for July 1st 2009. We are 60 to 65% built and so that would be why we need to have 2 months from the time they ok us. Things look a little more hopeful as the Ambassador of Zambia in Washington DCs office (the tourism director) is trying to see if they can help us in any way. Really the only reason we are being stopped is the hunter down the road wants to hunt on our land and we won't let him. We will win this as we refuse to give up. Here's hoping yhat this is the last time we have to reschedule.

June 8th 2008

Demian is in Lusaka right now dealing with business and trying to get us up and running. I thought we had red tape here, we have now hired our second lawyer. He is suppose to be the top lawyer in Zambia , time will tell. We have had more trouble with our hunter/neighbor, but we are still protecting the elephants and other animals from being hunted around our land/camp.

After all the animals were there first and we are just visitors. We hope to see you all there, the more of you that come and take photos the less animals die. Demian is also working on the side in some Zambian movies, not that you will necessarily see them but who knows maybe we will show it on movie nights at the camp.

Zikomo for all the enquiries and feedback. What can we say but "WOW!", we love it and obviously you do too!

The news on Zikomo Safari camp is that everything takes 3x longer in Zambia than expected. We had to switch sites due to an environmental study, as we found out that our old site floods easily. We now have a better and bigger site with a 99 year lease. The new site borders 2 rivers and is across from the national park. After we got the site, we had to redo everything we had already done, which means council meetings, meetings with ZAWA(Zambian Wildlife Authority) and another environmental study. This one came up in good standing, so we started building in mid July. Barring any natural or man-made disasters, we will open June 15th, 2008.

We decided to do something special for the first year opening for all of you who sent emails about us to your friends and their friends, and said they are going to send us lots of people. We thought such kindness should be rewarded, so if you send us 5 couples that book and come, then you and your significant other can come for free for 5 days to Zikomo and sit on the safari drives. When we stop to look at the sunset during our safari drive, you can think to yourself as you are holding a cocktail and eating some of Zikomo’s famous appetizers, “We didn’t have to pay for this, but we would have gladly”.

The camp will finish building by November, complete with a hippo proof swimming pool and a gym to work out in. We think you will appreciate both the gym and swimming pool, because it can become very hot in Zambia and you don’t want to go home 5 pounds heavier from the great food, like we did on our first 3 safaris.
